About the Event

The traditional Meliá Cuba Golf Cup, is a specialist annual event, offering golfers the opportunity to enjoy their sport over the 18 holes of the finest green in Cuba. The Cup is held at the Varadero Golf Club, a narrow stretch, parallel to the beach, of more than 60 hectares, with playing areas, forests of native vegetation and lagoons, making it an enormously attractive setting. The Meliá Las Américas hotel, which has been hosting the event since it was first held, is a 5-star, adult-only resort.

Program and conditions of the event

Conditions

PARTICIPANTS • All amateur golfers can participate. • Players’ handicap must be confirmed by their club. • Male golfers with a handicap of 26 or less and female golfers with a handicap of 36 or less will be allowed to play.  

EVENT TERMS & CONDITIONS • Play will follow the rules of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and local rules, which participants will be given in due course.   • Any dispute will be settled by the Tournament Organising Committee whose decision will be final. • Only players over 18 can participate. • The use of golf carts is mandatory.   • There is no caddy service. • The Organising Committee reserves the right of admission and to make any changes deemed necessary for the optimal running of the tournament. • All scorecards must be signed and exchanged with opposing players. 

 DRES'S CODE • Players may not wear jeans, sleeveless sweaters or short shorts. • Only golf shoes are allowed. 

 CATEGORIES AND SYSTEM

• The tournament will be played using stroke play for the first men’s and ladies’ categories and Stableford for the second categories. With this system, the player who completes the round in the least number of strokes wins. Everyone plays against everyone else. Three rounds of 18 holes will be played (one optional practice round and two mandatory tournament rounds). • The first and second day of competition will be played in individual format. • The individual results of each round will be added together to select the event winner. • Players without an official handicap will play in another category using stroke play and the Callaway scoring system.  

TEE TIME • Every player will be given a tee time, and they must be at their starting hole tee 15 minutes before it. If a player is called and has not shown up at the correct time, they will be disqualified. • Tee times will be every 10 minutes. 

 WEATHER CONDITIONS • Unless announced by the organizing committee, the event will not be cancelled or postponed due to adverse weather conditions and participants must take their shots as per their schedule.  

STARTING TEE • 1st • 2nd men’s category: all will play white. • Super grandfathers: men aged 70 and over will all play yellow. • 1st ladies’ category: all will play red. • 2nd ladies’ category: players aged up to 64 will play red. • Super grandmothers: ladies aged 65 and over will all play (green/white).  The following procedure will apply in the event of a tie: Net: The lowest handicap will be used. Gross: the highest handicap will be used. The round of golf must take no more than 4½ hours.   

AWARDS • The first and second places in each category will be given trophies and golf items. • The best male and female gross scores will receive trophies and golf items. Prizes will also be given for the following: - Closest to the pin. - Longest male drive. - Longest female drive. - Straightest drive. 

 RAFFLES - There will be different raffles on the Prize Dinner celebration that will include Free Weeks of stay for two at Melia Las Américas and golf items.men’s category: players aged up to 59 will play blue and players 60 and over will play white.
